ESTEVE Workshop October 7 - 9

Welcome to the GDR-3545-ESTEVE Foundation Workshop

Scientific conferences and presentations have a reputation for being boring and a waste of time. Speakers read their articles, fill slides with text and tables of results, and do not engage with their audience. But sometimes someone stands up and gives a really impactful presentation that we remember and which inspires us. Is there a method? Can anyone make a great presentation? The answers are YES and YES.

The workshop looks at best practice for the preparation, design and delivery of oral presentations in science. It is designed as an equal mix of theory and practice and is conducted in a relaxed atmosphere of open discussion and feedback. Participants can use these 2-days to work intensively on a presentation they will give in the future.

Typically, people attend a workshop for a couple of days and once it finishes they forget the tips and skills learned. Not this workshop - it is designed as a resource for the future. I use video and Web 2.0 technologies to build a private webspace (a wiki) where you can watch videos of your presentation and speaking exercises together with detailed analysis and feedback. Furthermore, on this wiki you will have access to all workshop materials, free e-books and links to further resources to help you keep improving even after the clinic is over. This resource will always be at your fingertips whenever you next have to prepare a presentation.

Trainees enrolled in the workshop or practical school will also participate in the GDR3545-GPCR meeting, allowing them to attend lectures covering the latest developments and applications of cutting-edge GPCR-based research.

We look forward to welcoming you for this Workshop in October 2019!
